The Front Entry

Basically this is just an update on the painting I was planning to hang just inside the front door.

The stairs to the second floor are just to the right of the front door.

The tile-topped nesting tables are here for the time being unless I find a better place.  Everything on them is changeable; this is a great place to “try things out”.

Viewed from the front porch the small entry area has a few interesting pieces.

The print of Paris is temporary in this spot.  It will probably end up in the master suite some place.

We don't often use the front door so there's no need for a place to drop keys or coats.

The blue square vase and iris box seem to go well together.

The exterior of the front door still needs to be painted after reversing its swing.

And this spool lamp project which was a big fail is still out of place.

The stair runner is also not yet complete. Hmmm.

I am happy with the oil painting in the oak frame; it just fits.

What have you moved around lately?  Have you found the right spot yet?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.

  1. I move everything around as well and change color schemes at the drop of a hat LOL. Not sure why you say your spool lamp was a fail. I think it is cute. I wonder how you would like it with a darker lamp shade on it, like blue. I like the photo. That vent makes it hard to decorate that wall.

    1. The spool lamp was a fail because I bought a cute little lampshade (now on the standing lamp in the master bedroom) which was waaaayy toooo big. I just plunked that pleated shade on it so I could use the lamp. This lamp is wood (and maybe hand made), I have a similar one in brass. I will say that these small lamps come it handy. I definitely like dark shades. I’m working on it. Blue would be perfect. Jo
