Finally Back in the Master

Nothing is finished in the master suite but we’ve been sleeping in our back bedroom for well over a year and I have had quite enough.

The bed in Treetops room is perfect for one person.

The master bedroom has been painted for some time but the trim is not installed nor are the bookshelves that I have planned for the wall opposite the bed.

A mocked-up wall of shelves in the bedroom.

Charlie had been working on mudding the closet but he’s not nearly done.  The closet won’t be finished until the floor is in and the floor can’t be installed until the bathroom is finished. Blah, blah, lah-di-blah.

The master bedroom is periwinkle blue called Virtuoso.

Our sleigh bed is not set up because I want to remodel it and it is a bear to set up but I made asked Charlie nicely to carry 2 Holllywood bed frames over from the Cottage .

No headboard but the bed fits between our two vintage French bombe side tables.

Then we huffed the box springs and king-size mattress onto the frames.  It’s not pretty but I forgot how lovely my own bed is. Super firm and plenty of room to move around. (The bed in the back bedroom is only a double — not much room for 2 grown people of a certain age.)

If I were a poet I might write "Ode to a Bed".

Maybe now I can settle down to a long winter’s nap while sugarplums dance in my head.

Are you a bed snob?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.
