A Quick Tour of the First Floor

The first floor layout is something like this right now.
The first floor layout is something like this right now.

We haven’t had any semblance of order in the house for well over a year now.  The upstairs is a shambles but we’re working to bring it under control.

In the mean time last week we invited guests over for Thanksgiving and thus forced ourselves to clear the floor and all horizontal surfaces on the first floor.

From the living room you can see into the dining room as well as the kitchen.

I can’t tell you how awesome it was to come down the next morning and find everything neat and tidy.

The dining room looks into the kitchen from one direction and into the conservatory from the other.

Don’t worry about us maintaining the organization because I started another sewing project which consumes the dining room and bleeds out to the surrounding areas.

From the bathroom corner of the conservatory the dining room and the kitchen can be seen.

As one of our dear friends says: This too shall pass.

But for now we’re happy for the renovation, the finishing of anticipated projects, and a glimpse of how things might can be.

Do you have a favorite spot in your house?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.
