Love a Bargain, But . . .

I paid a hefty price for the two living room curtain rods: $45 each.

I bought 2 sets of pewter curtain rods at J C Penney for this project.

The color of the rods is pewter which looks like a dark charcoal grey installed on the paler grey walls.

Matching rings at Penney’s were on sale at 10 for $30.  I need 20, so that’d be $60. Too much. (Waaaaay too much.)

Curtain rings are often sold in sets of 7.

JoAnn was having 50% off curtain accessories plus I had an additional 20% off discount coupon on the whole order. So for less than $15 I bought 21-40 mm nickel curtain rings.

Of course they were way too bright so I lined them up on a piece (or 2) of cardboard

and sprayed them metallic charcoal.

The curtain rings are now much closer to the color of the pewter curtain rods.

After a few mishaps like dropping the whole piece on the wet ground before the paint was totally dry, I have coordinated rings at a bargain price.

Are you watching for bargains this year?

Welcome to The Glade, where the second generation of renovations has just begun and the mania about our home, music and other passions fill our days and nights. We’re Charlie and Jo in the music world; Mary Jo and Charles to family; and JoJo and Charlie to each other. We are renovating a midcentury house in a Victorian historic district where we want to live there the rest of our lives. It's a 1946 house located in Maryland. We were married in this house. Thus far (pre-blog) we refinished cabinets, added a window seat (still working on the cushion), rearranged a wall in the guest house due to sink/vanity replacement, planted a vegetable garden, and other quick and not-so-quick fixes. So this latest zeal for construction is the result of my having lived here since 1997 and feeling a need to ready the house for the next chapter and beyond.
