First I had to cut the ends off and finish them with pieces of 1 by 2 which I attached with pocket screws.
Then I sanded the whole thing with an electric sander and rubbed on some Minwax English Chestnut stain.
Then I wiped on Behr’s Drift Grey semi-transparent stain and sanded the entire piece again.
I love this grey finish which I banded with a deep blue border.
I had some brass name plates and cup hooks on hand which I spray painted with a combination of hammered bronze on the undercoat and metallic charcoal applied while the bronze was still wet.
I measured the name plates down the length of the board and screwed in the hooks under them.
After a small mistake I had to remove all the nameplates and reinstall them upside-down. It figures.
When our new mudroom is built I’m sure we’ll find a place for this key rack.
What are you making?
