What Happened to Our Fabric Stores?

When I decided to recover this mid-century teak chair for the pink bedroom I wanted a blue and white floral print. First I went to the closest fabric store to us which was JoAnn’s. I strolled around the store for about an hour and found nothing suitable. I went home knowing I could find something great at a nearby Calico Corners.

I hopped on the Calico Corners website  (which has a nice search engine) and found a stunning piece of Waverly fabric on sale for $22.49 per yard.

"Deauville Dance" in the color Luna is a Jacobean print on an Ikat diamond background.

Unfortunately the CC store near us had been closed.  I checked out the price with shipping which brought it up to $28.49. I also checked Mary Jo’s for the same fabric and it was $24.97.

I combed Etsy for a blue and white floral but just couldn’t find anything.  Then I went back to the CC website to find out the fabric’s name and maker and put the name of the fabric into Ebay’s search.

A search on Ebay is always a good idea for a hard-to-find item.

Lo and behold, there it was for $49.95 plus $9 shipping. WOW! But wait, not for 1 yard but for 5+ yards (190 inches). Five yards for less than $60.  Or a little less (152 inches) for $50 shipping included.

The new fabric will be a nice change.

Yes, please. I’ll take the shorter piece for about $3.10 per yard. (The larger piece was $3.22 per yard.  Still a bargain.)  Plenty to cover a chair and maybe make pillow covers or curtains.  We’ll see.

Do you think outside the box for your decor needs? Like what?
