Cottage Projects: A Clean Sweep

We keep a Master List and a Sub-Master List. The Sub-Master refers only to projects that affect Glade Cottage.

Since I’m updating the Master List I also want to focus on the Cottage’s list of projects which I detailed here.

So what’s next and what’s left?  What’s the goal?

The goal is to make the Cottage liveable, that is, clear out all the in-progress projects, clear out extraneous furniture, have all the systems (heating, plumbing, air conditioning, etc.) working optimally.  If we ever get our renovation started we might need to live in the cottage while the walls are torn out of the house. OR we might need to store new windows and doors under cover. OR we could rent it to bring in some funds to help with expenses.

Everything is predicated on the concept that Glade Cottage is liveable. To that end I’m renaming the Sub-Master List: The Cottage Clean Sweeep File.

And here’s where the “to-do” list stands.

  1. Finish refinishing tall chest of drawers and remove from cottage

    Charlie’s chest

  2. Paint wooden lamp and find a shade
  3. Paint standing shell lamp
  4. Paint and repair shade on double desk lamp
  5. Paint and find a shade for ceramic lamp

This was pink but has been primed white for over 3 years.

  6. Repair drafting table
  7. Repair drafting lamp
  8. Get rid of foam peanuts
  9. Get rid of old blankets
  10. Paint 2nd half of ceiling

    Partially painted cottage ceiling

  11. Refinish floor
  12. Finish floor seam under bathroom sink

The unfinished floor under the bathroom vanity needs a finishing treatment.

  13. Rehang ceiling drop coth

    Almost like a canopy bed

  14. Get mice deterrents
  15. Refinish vintage lawn furniture

    Classic porch furniture

  16. Organize paint
  17. Remove boxes of old papers from attic
  18. Hang curtain over window with air conditioner
  19. Build lean-to shed for lawn mower, power washer and generator
  20. Move metal shelving from shed to Cottage laundry
  21. Get rid of old clothes

These things haven’t been worn in years.

  22. Move lumber and sheetrock
  23. Recover 2nd black card table

    Recovered card table No. 1

  24. Recover old folding chair
  25. Redo rolling barrel chair
  26. Assign a place for mirrors
  27. Pack up or sell dishes and glasses
  28. Pack up or sell old silver pieces

    Oooo, Old Silver Stuff

  29. Clean old papers from safe
  30. Open then get rid of outside safe

This is just the list off the top of my head.  I haven’t even thought about showing it to Charlie yet. He’s a detail man, you see, and I’m the “big picture” executive producer. Can wait to get started finished.

What’s on your agenda of unnecessary tasks?
