Pinterest Combo Project for the Fall Challenge

I bought this little vegetable cabinet at a church rummage sale about 5 or 6 years ago and have kept it in the Wee Little House all this time.

I purchased this little, all-wood cabinet for $5.

When I bought it I really did not like it but I thought it might be useful SOMEDAY.

I really think this piece is uuuuuggglllyyy!

Someday has come.  It is the perfect size to fit between the refrigerator and the kitchen window and sturdy enough to hold our commercial coffee grinder.

The coffee grinder sits on the little cabinet.

I decided to paint it (what else) blue. The actual color is Rustoleum Gloss Navy. The inside is rarely seen so I left the bare wood.

The outside is navy with blue shelf liner on the shelves.

I sprayed the bright brass hinges and screws with metallic charcoal (my favorite).

The screws are stuck into the edge of corrugated cardboard to paint the heads.

And the 3 wooden knobs were metalized.

The technique for the knobs will be posted later this week.

Thus far this is just a little painted cabinet.

The combination of navy, charcoal and pewter works for me.

I also wanted to do something with the homely little glass panels. This is where the Pinterest connection comes in.

I’ve been wanting to paint on glass like the cabinet above. And I’ve been wanting to use some French Graphics Fairy lettering like the template below.

The glass was printed on both sides: the outline on the front and the colored fill on the back.

The “lead lines” were painted on the front and the color fill on the back.

I scraped the tulip decals off the 2 glass panes with a razor blade in a handle and all purpose cleaner to keep from scratching the glass.

I was surprised how easily the “leaded glass” decoration came off.

I printed out the words “café ” and “sucre” (because that’s what we keep in there) on the computer printer, reversed the image, and enlarged them to fit the glass.

Flipped and enlarged.

Then I taped the reversed image on the front of the glass.

I taped the template to the right side of the glass so I could paint on the back side.

And painted it with black paint left over from the piano desk project. Unfortunately the black paint and brush was a miserable failure so I scraped the paint from the glass and tried paint pens.

The black paint seems a little plain.

Since the black paint didn’t make much impact I outlined the black script from behind with blue.

The black paint is outlined with blue paint pen.

From the front the writing is black with a blue outline.

We’ll store the coffee behind this sign.

Then the panes were inserted into the cabinet. I didn’t finish the project until after dark so please excuse the flash photo and the fingerprints on the glass.

The writing is subtle and descriptive.

My Pinterest Challenge Project

We’re going to love using this in the kitchen.

The before and after.

Before and After

So there’s my Pinterest project finished in less than a week. Woo-hoo!

Have you been pinning in vain?  What do you do after you use a Pinterest idea?  Keep it on your board? Or unPin it?
