Don’t Fall Through the Wall

Here we moved the refrigerator from one side of the kitchen to the other.

The refrigerator was moved from the opposite side of the room.

The wall behind the former site of the refrigerator had been removed, studs and all, to allow it to sit just a little bit farther out of the room. This wall has been missing for over 15 years (my tenure at The Glade) and probably for as long as 30 or 40 years. Obviously this wall needed to be repaired (which is probably why we never moved the fridge before since we really like it in its new space).

With the wall removed we could see through to the basement steps.

Charlie filled in the wall with studs and drywall left over from other projects.

Studs were replaced to allow the drywall to be secured.

Salvaged partial pieces of drywall were used to complete the wall.

The sheetrock is screwed to the 2″ by 4″ studs.

He mudded and sanded the new wall.

The wall needs a few coats of mud with sanding between each layer.

The next step is mine: I need to decide what to do with the wall since I have no more wallpaper left from the original job. I have a few coffee/cafe related ideas since we’re thinking of making this area our espresso station.

Have you been living with a secret defect? Would repairing it be a huge undertaking?
