Back here we showed some progress on a project that had been in partial completion for years: insulating the Cottage attic. It’s a difficult job because you can’t stand and it’s hot.
Years ago Charlie started to insulate this attic to make the main room below a little cozier in winter and cooler in summer. It was never finished so now he’s taken to finishing the job and at the same time cleaning the attic of dirt, dust and mouse droppings. The first time (at my request) he tried to use wires that were supposed to span each section and hold up the insulation. That didn’t work very well so he reverted to stapling the sides against the ceiling joists (like he wanted to do from the beginning).
The insulation is stapled to the rafters with the brown side inside to allow the roof to breathe but at the same time keep excess moisture out of the cottage.
Looking toward the back of the attic a few large sections remain to be insulated.
Now that area is finished also.
This is number 16 on our sub-master list and now it’s checked off.
Our next attic project is to go through the boxes we have stored there and get rid of things we’ll never use again. We would hate to leave some of this stuff for others to go through on our demise.
Do you keep a list of projects? Do you enjoy checking them off? Duh!
