A Tale of Two Sills

When we finished the floor in Glade Cottage bathroom we wanted to reuse the threshold plate that had been there prior to the new floor.

The threshold was old, silver metal.

It was shiny silver, scratched, and daubed with paint.  I decided to spray it a darker color to hide the imperfections.

A spray metal primer will help the paint to adhere.

First I gave it a good spray of metal primer.

The formerly silver threshold is now metallic charcoal.

Then I hit it with a few coats of metallic charcoal. (One of my favorites that I used here and here.)

Stick each nail in a piece of corrugated cardboard and spray paint all the tops together.

I even sprayed the nail heads to match.

The newly painted threshold links the old floor to the new one.

With one sill down I turned my attention to the window sill in the same bathroom that had been broken when we took the trim out to put in new drywall.

The window sill had splintered into 2 pieces.

I had some pine that had the corners softened on one side.

The old sill was in sad shape.

I placed the old sill pieces down as a template and traced around them.

The proposed cut lines are transferred to the lumber.

After straightening the pencil lines I Charlie cut the sill out.

The intricate cuts were made with a jigsaw.

I primed and painted both the window sill piece and repurposed trim that we’d been saving to finish this project. (See how I clean and paint old trim here.)

The sill is cut, painted, and installed along with the other window trim.

So two sills are complete.

Have you been up to any silliness?
