The Kitchen Switch

Our kitchen is too small and poorly arranged.

Our compact kitchen

In an effort to make it more livable until we can have a new one we’re simplifying the layout.

We’re moving the table, shelf and coffee grinder.

We’ve removed the tile-topped table and pushed the refrigerator into its space.

Charlie flipped the fridge from one side of the kitchen to the other.

This allows us access to a wall that needs to be dry-walled.

The drywall behind the refrigerator (which leads to the basement) had been removed along with the studs.

But, a more urgent project is to reconnect the waterline to the ice maker in the refrigerator. (This is actually how we discovered the leak in the house’s drainage pipe described here.)

The ice maker waterline was coiled behind the refrigerator.

After turning off the water Charlie disconnected the copper tubing from the back of the refrigerator.

The tubing needs to cross the crawlspace and come up through the floor across the room.

Then he carefully uncoiled the tubing and stretched it through the crawl space under the floor and up through a hole in the flooring near the refrigerator.

Charlie enlarged a small hole in the floor so the copper tube and fitting would fit.

He reattached the tubing and we were back in the ice making business.

The refrigerator is settled and making ice in its new space

Cooooool!

What small but complicated projects are you working on?
